Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has called for suspended deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and ex-Kedah menteri besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir to be sacked from the party, The Star reports.
Urging the council to discuss this at its next meeting, Nazri said he personally wanted them out.
The tourism minister had previously said he was not looking for Muhyiddin to be sacked.
He also questioned Mukhriz's statement that the Citizens' Declaration was to remove Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister and not to defeat Umno.
"The whole of Umno supports Najib, so how can he say that he is not bringing down Umno?
"It's not logical. Moreover the declaration also demanded that all those who concert with Najib should be downed as well, so that automatically means it is to down Umno," Nazri said.
He was responding to a statement by Mukhriz last night that the declaration was only aimed at removing Najib from office and not to bring down the Barisan Nasional government.
Mukhriz also said the aim was to “replace Najib with another prime minister from the ruling coalition”.
On Friday, Dr Mahathir led more than 50 individuals to sign the Citizens’ Declaration, which called for Najib’s removal and institutional reforms.
