'Umno nothing to do with Anwar billboard incident'

Umno has nothing to do with the actions of Selangor NGOs Coalition president Jamal Md Yunos in wanting to burn a "Free Anwar" billboard, said Umno information chief Annuar Musa.
He said that whatever Jamal, who is also the Sungai Besar Umno division chief, does is in his own personal capacity and not as a representative of the party.
"Our country has laws. If he (Jamal) breaks any laws, he will not be exempted, but I'm not sure what laws he has broken.
"(But) his actions do not represent Umno and it is a personal action.
"Umno did not discuss this matter and it is not the policy and decision of Umno Malaysia. His actions are his own," Annuar said when met by reporters at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission building in Putrajaya today.
This was in reply to questions from reporters on Jamal and several of his supporters who tried to burn a "Free Anwar" billboard in Ampang on Wednesday.
Two days ago, Jamal and about 80 of his supporters threatened to burn a billboard urging the release of the former PKR leader.
However, they did not end up burning the billboard, opting instead to hang a banner with information related to the behaviour of sodomy on the billboard, which caused some disturbance in the area on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, when asked about the new opposition bloc between PAS and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan), Annuar said that he respected the Islamic party’s actions which he sees as part of their preparations for the next general election.
“I think I cannot comment because I’m not so familiar with this Ikatan and what it is. I feel the people can make their own judgments.
“This is the method of PAS, that is their right. In this country, everyone can do what they think is appropriate. I respect the freedom to each make their own preparations for the general elections,” he said. -Mkini
