Unilateral conversion of minors law drafts ready, says minister

PARLIAMENT The draft of new laws pertaining to the unilateral conversion of minors has been completed, de facto law minister Nancy Shukri told Dewan Rakyat today.
"From the aspect of civil (law), we do not have much problem, but this also relates to syariah (law)," she said.
From the syariah law aspect, she said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom has been obtaining feedback from the state religious bodies.
"A series of consultations with the states have been conducted," she said during the question-and-answer session.
"I was informed that few states had given their formal feedback. This process is still going on," she added.
Therefore, she said, the special committee set up by the cabinet to deal with unilateral conversion has yet to make a decision,
"It is my responsibility to ensure the problem is settled. This is not only about politics because as a Muslim, I do not want my religion to be misused to fulfil personal intentions," she added.
