Which part of the PAC report will be declassified?

YOURSAY | ‘The 1MDB report is not a security threat, why classified it under OSA?’
Odin Tajué: Based on the various exposés published by the Sarawak Report and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the RM2.6 billion (US$681 million) was only part of the money that 1MDB had paid out to various third parties.
The purposes of the payments were highly questionable, and where most of the money had ended up were unclear.
To quote three examples, how and where has Brazen Sky invested RM6.1 billion and 1MDB Global Investment Limited invested RM5.1 billion, and why has RM4.1 billion been deposited with Aabar Investments PJS?
Besides these and the excluded payments made by 1MDB, there was also RM69 million (RM42 million plus RM27 million) allegedly embezzled from SRC International.
There is no reason whatsoever to doubt the veracity of the exposés, as PM Najib Razak nor any of the individuals named has taken Sarawak Report and WSJ to court for defamation.
Sarawak Report has at the last count four times challenged all it has named to sue it, but none has. WSJ has clearly taunted 1MDB-Najib to sue it too but is still waiting.
Najib, aided and abetted by sundry persons, some of whom have conveniently flown to other countries while the rest are citizens of other countries (for example Patrick Mahony, Tarek Obaid, and Khadem Al Qubaisi) stands accused of allegedly taking billions.
Remember, the Swiss OAG (Office of the Attorney General) has found that some US$4 billion has been misappropriated.
If the auditor-general and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have done their investigation well, their findings would have corroborated the said exposés or at least some of them.
The fact that the findings have been classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) means that the exposés have been proved veracious.
Olivia: It is clear that if the donation was indeed from Saudi Arabia and from the country’s royalty as what the attorney-general has said, and what BBC's security correspondent had reported - that it was authorised by top members of the Saudi royal family - then the RM2.6 billion investigation papers would fall under OSA, as it affects our international relations.
Bornean: Unless you show us hard proof where the so-called donation from, I and many other Malaysians believe it comes from our taxes. So return our monies.
Lone_Star: I respect former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad but the trouble is that almost everything he accuses Najib and the government of, he had done when he was in power – detaining people without trial, bailouts and mega projects.
Anonymous_1401773638: It seems that the PAC chairman does not know his job function as the committee’s main function is to pinpoint discrepancies between what "should be done and what is done" and to make its findings public.
After all, it’s not called the ‘Official Secret’ Committee but a ‘Public Accounts’ Committee where you have to account to the public.
Odin Tajué: One minute, PAC chief Hasan Arifin, if you please.
First, you tell us that the auditor-general's final report on 1MDB investigation has been classified a secret under the OSA. It will be declassified once the PAC tables its probe on 1MDB to the Parliament.
Then you tell us that the auditor-general’s final report will be classified a secret under the OSA after the PAC has submitted its report (tabled in Parliament) on the 1MDB probe.
Next, you tell us that the auditor-general has said that the final report of 1MDB will no longer be a classified document under OSA once PAC tables its 1MDB report.
Question: So what exactly will be declassified (released for public consumption) and what will be classified (kept a state secret) after the report has been submitted to Parliament?
Nil: If the report is a secret, why table it in Parliament? Anyway, what is so secret about the report that it has to be classified under OSA?
Bamboo: Indeed, the 1MDB report is not a security threat to Malaysia, why the need for it to be classified under OSA?
It’s more like this 1MDB report, if made public, will be a threat to the rule of someone.
Sans Prejudice: With AG's earlier pronouncement that everything is 'above board', the final reports from the auditor-general and PAC will probably be in consonance too.
The well-orchestrated disruptions and diversions have taken its toll on the truth we have waited in suspense all these months.
It is at best a patchwork of investigations unceremoniously hastened to arrive at a predetermined verdict and we can then live happily ever after. -Mkini
