KUALA LUMPUR - The Citizens’ Declaration will be handed to the Conference of Rulers once there are enough signatures, former Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said today.
The Star Online reported Mukhriz, who was among the signatories of the petition calling for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s removal, as saying that there has been positive feedback from the public.
“The declaration will of course be presented to the government as well, as a reflection of the people's voice,” Mukhriz was quoted telling a press conference in Pagoh, Johor.
“We cannot wait for another two years and risk our party losing in the general election. We have to do it now to make things right. So, to the people, we apologise that we have to use this way," he added.
The Citizens’ Declaration launched by the Save Malaysia movement headed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was signed by over 40 prominent figures, including Barisan Nasional (BN) veterans, opposition leaders and human rights activists.
An online petition in support of the Citizens’ Declaration has over 46,000 signatories at the time of writing.
