SHAH ALAM: Nur Alia Nordin was at home watching television when she heard a loud bang.
“It was as if a firecracker had exploded next to my ear.
“I raced out of the house and saw thick black smoke in the sky,” she told FMT, when met at the site.
The 28-year-old immediately rushed to the site, which is 3km away, with her husband. They were shocked to learn that a light aircraft had crashed on the Guthrie Highway.
“We were one of the first few people who arrived at the scene. We did not dare to go near it as we were afraid there might be another explosion.”
The aircraft, operated by Jetvalet Sdn Bhd, had departed from Langkawi International Airport at 2.08pm before it crashed near the Elmina housing scheme along the highway at around 3pm.
Ten people were killed, eight of whom were on board the plane. The driver of a car and a motorcyclist were hit by debris from the plane and were also killed.
Another resident who lives nearby, Ahmad Asyraf, 24, said he rushed to the location immediately after seeing thick smoke.
“I was about to head out for lunch but when I saw the smoke, I came here immediately.”
However, unlike Alia, he said he did not hear any explosion. - FMT
