Amanah has chosen two former aides of late domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub to defend the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat in next month's by-elections.
According to party president Mohamad Sabu, Salahuddin's former political secretary cum Johor Amanah vice chairperson Suhaizan Kaiat will contest in Pulai, while engineer Nazri Abdul Rahman, who is also a former aide of the minister in the state constituency, will stand in Simpang Jeram.
"The candidates will be introduced in an event held in remembrance of the late Salahuddin on Aug 23, at the Simpang Jeram state constituency in Johor," Mohamad said in a brief statement today.
He noted that the two candidates were chosen by an election committee led by Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari, secretary-general Hatta Ramli, vice-president Mahfuz Omar, and other division and state-level leaders.
Suhaizan (above) served as the Johor speaker between 2018 and 2022, while Nazri is Bakri Amanah's deputy chief.
The Election Commission set the nomination day for the Pulai parliamentary and the Simpang Jeram state seats by-elections on Aug 26, while early voting is on Sept 5 and the polling day on Sept 9.
The by-elections are being called due to the unexpected vacancy of the two seats following Salahuddin’s death on July 23, a day after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage. - Mkini
