BN to have one seat in Penang govt, says DAP

KUALA LUMPUR: An assemblyman from Barisan Nasional will be a member of the DAP-led Penang state government, the party’s secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said tonight.

Loke said the decision was made by the party’s central executive committee.

Two BN candidates, Rashidi Zinol and Reezal Merican Naina Merican of Umno, were elected at the state assembly elections on Saturday. Rashidi won in Sungai Acheh and Reezal in Bertam.

DAP (through Pakatan Harapan) and BN are members of Anwar Ibrahim’s unity coalition government.

Loke said the DAP leadership had agreed to propose to Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow that an Umno member be appointed a state executive councillor.

“There are two BN candidates who won in Penang, so we will appoint a representative from Umno to sit in the Penang executive council. This was a unanimous decision reached by the committee,” he said.

The unity federal government coalition comprises PH, BN and East Malaysian parties.

He added that the party would also be sending its nominations for state executive councillor positions to the menteris besar of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, which are also run by Pakatan Harapan.

He said the choice of DAP candidates for state executive council positions would be determined by the party leadership, who had been given the mandate to make nominations. - FMT
