Ex-home minister raps cops who danced to DAP's tune of 'discord'

STATE POLLS | For Perikatan Nasional, the root of all racial and religious problems in Malaysia can be traced back to a single source - DAP.

Speaking to some 100 people at a ceramah in Taman Medan, Selangor last night, former home minister Hamzah Zainudin chided police personnel who voted for parties other than PN, accusing them of dancing to DAP’s tune of discord.

According to the PN secretary-general, when DAP’s influence grew in the political arena, it also widened racial divisions and disrupted the peace.

"Because DAP is the culprit that caused a split between the races.

"When DAP was small, this country was peaceful. The Chinese could do business peacefully, the Indians could do whatever they want, while the Malays could live in peace and harmony without being bothered by anyone.

"Today, the culprit that created disunity is DAP. Therefore, if members of the police force had voted (for different parties) other than PN, it means they have heeded DAP's wish to disunite our country," Hamzah (above) charged.

Yesterday, 98,785 police, military personnel and their spouses cast their ballots in early voting for the six state elections.

Selangor PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi

Meanwhile, at a ceramah in Tanjong Karang last night, Selangor PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi revived an allegation that has been denied.

He accused a Selangor state assembly speaker of thwarting the state menteri besar’s bid to table a bill concerning Islamic laws.

"The Selangor menteri besar is weak, this is a fact. If you remember, Selangor wanted to table an amendment bill concerning the administration of Islamic laws.

"I am not trying to play up religious sentiments. But in order for a bill to be tabled in the state assembly, it has to go into the assembly sitting agenda. And to do this, it has to get the state government's approval.

"However, the menteri besar was blocked by the speaker. Usually in Selangor, the state assembly sitting will run for two weeks, but that particular sitting was cut short to only three days,” he added, without mentioning the names of individuals or parties.

However, it is understood that Yunus was referring to the proposed amendment for unilateral conversion of minors in Selangor.

Previously, Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir claimed that incumbent speaker Ng Suee Lim was the reason for the amendment being rejected.

Ng, who is from DAP, refuted the allegation and accused Roslan of spreading lies. - Mkini
