Gerakan has objected to Perikatan Nasional Youth’s proposal for an alternative National Day logo and theme to be used in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis this year.
Party president Dominic Lau reportedly disagreed with PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s suggestion believing that the Merdeka Day celebration should not be politicised.
The PN deputy chairperson said he raised the objection during a PN central leadership meeting.
"Fadhli made the suggestion because we saw that the federal government had politicised the National Day theme by using terms such as ‘Madani’ and ‘unity’.
"It was a counter (move by Fadhli). But he can’t do anything because he is not a chief minister or a menteri besar,” Lau (above) was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today during a press conference in Teluk Kumbar, Penang.
Yesterday, Fadhli said the four PN-led states could use a different National Day logo and theme for state-level celebrations instead of the ones the federal government announced.
The Pasir Mas MP reportedly said the states would likely use the alternative logo and theme.
The PN Youth logo depicts the hibiscus flower, which is the national flower, with five petals, taking the colours found in the Jalur Gemilang and with the theme "Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera" (Strong Consensus for a Peaceful Malaysia).
In May, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope) as the theme of the 2023 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also hit out at Fadhli's proposal, saying that the PAS leader was being "narrow minded". - Mkini
