The Perikatan Nasional-led Terengganu government will not be using the alternative National Day logo and theme as proposed by the coalition's youth wing.
Instead, Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said they will be using Putrajaya’s Malaysia Madani theme.
"For us in Terengganu, we will be using the same logo as the federal (government)," he was quoted as saying by The Star.
However, Samsuri (above) stressed that state governments set the themes for Merdeka celebrations at the state level, not Putrajaya.
In May, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope) as the theme of the 2023 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Malaysia Madani is the Anwar Ibrahim administration's tagline.
PN Youth yesterday unveiled an alternative Merdeka logo, which depicts the national flower - the hibiscus - with five petals, taking the colours found in the Jalur Gemilang and with the theme "Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera" (Strong Consensus for a Peaceful Malaysia).
This was proposed as an alternative for the PN-led states of Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Perlis only rejects logo
Earlier today, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said he had no problem with the "Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” theme.
However, he said they rejected the federal logo as well as the Malaysia Madani tagline.
PN component party Gerakan has objected to the coalition’s proposed alternative logo saying that the National Day should not be politicised. - Mkini
