KOTA KINABALU: The truck driver involved in a fatal accident that claimed a woman's life in a multi-vehicle collision has been remanded for five days.
The incident happened at Lido, Jalan Lintas, here on Tuesday,
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the 52-year-old man was remanded from yesterday until Sunday (Aug 27).
"The truck will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for examination," he said when contacted today.
Meanwhile, in his Facebook post tonight, Luyang state assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe stated that he had been following the police investigation's progress closely.
"The suspect (truck driver) has been remanded until Aug 27, and the truck is to be sent to Puspakom for detailed investigation.
"I have contacted the authorities to ensure that necessary actions are being taken, including measures to prevent such accidents from recurring. May justice be upheld," he said in the post.
In the incident on Tuesday, at around 6pm, a woman lost her life after the car she was driving was crushed by a truck in a seven-vehicle collision.
The victim, Nicolette Hannah George, 26, who was driving a Perodua Bezza, was confirmed dead at the scene.
It is learned that the victim, residing in Kampung Babah, Penampang, worked at a private company in Kepayan 88.
Phoong, in his post, also extended his condolences to the victim's family.
"Rest in peace, younger sister Nicolette Hannah, (and) my condolences to the late victim's parents for losing their beloved child in the fatal accident at Jalan Lintas two days ago.
"I had the opportunity to pay my last respects to Nicolette, and I hope everything goes smoothly for the late victim's family.
"My heart breaks. I am lost for words. She (the victim) was very young and had a bright future," he said. - NST
