REMBAU: Why didn’t the PAS and Bersatu ministers approve allocations to improve living conditions for enforcement personnel serving in Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), asks Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"For years they lived in difficult conditions; houses and offices were not maintained properly.
"When I saw the files brought by the Home Minister and Defence Minister it seems that every year there were requests to provide more comfortable facilities.
"They were not asking for huge houses but just more comfortable conditions and there had been no responses back.
"Then, it was supposedly an Islamic government with Bersatu and PAS ministers and all was asked for RM40mill for the whole Esscom, which is our police and Armed Forces operational areas," he said during a Mega Ceramah event in Paroi here on Wednesday (Aug 2) night.
He added that the allocation was approved a few months ago and that he had made visits to Armed Forces and police housings around the country.
"Ia dalam keadaan susah (in a bad condition). I do not say these things to sway the hearts of the police but this is our responsibility as the government.
"You talk about an Islamic government but you didn’t bother with the issues of the Malay Muslims under you.
"You only entice them with slogans and empty promises.
"I want to ask, for the last three years why was it not done? Police housing in the last three years; when have they taken care of it?" he said.
He added that despite financial constraints, the unity government had approved RM200mil each for the Armed Forces and police to address housing issues. - Star
