Judge Azrul Darus meted out the sentence to Kim Jongdeok after he pleaded guilty to possessing the fake currencies at a condominium unit in Mont Kiara on Feb 28, 2024.
Azrul ordered Kim’s jail sentence to commence from the date of his arrest on Feb 28 last year, Bernama reported.
He was accused of possessing three luggage bags full of US$100 notes as well as RM100 and RM50 notes while being aware that they were counterfeit.
The charge was framed under Section 489C of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years, upon conviction.
Kim, who was not represented by a lawyer, had sought a lighter sentence on grounds that he had repented and wanted to return to his country. - FMT
