PKR deputy election director Azam Afandi said Tan Hung Nye was removed from the position to uphold the integrity and smooth functioning of the machinery at grassroots level.
“I want to make it clear that his actions in support of the PN candidate have nothing to do with PKR,” he told FMT.
The Tapah PKR division will issue a show cause letter to Tan and refer the matter to the party’s disciplinary board.
“I’m deeply disappointed by his actions, especially since he had only recently won a seat on the Tapah PKR division committee in the party elections,” said Azam, who is also Tapah PKR chairman.
Meanwhile, Tapah PKR has appointed a new coordinator for Kampong Coldstream.
“PKR’s election machinery will continue working to ensure victory for the unity coalition’s candidate,” Azam said.
Ayer Kuning has 20 polling districts. Kampong Coldstream is one of seven won by Pakatan Harapan in the last general election. The rest were won by Barisan Nasional (nine) and PN (four).
This time around, PH, which includes PKR, is backing the BN candidate to defend Ayer Kuning against challengers from PN and Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
Voters in Ayer Kuning will go to the polls on April 26. The unity government is fielding Yusri Bakir, who will be challenged by Abdul Muhaimin Malek (PN) and KS Bawani (PSM). - FMT
