Tapah PN chief Abdul Muhaimin Malek said the announcement will be made at about 11pm after a ceramah by the coalition’s leaders, from both central and state levels, at a venue to be confirmed.
“As of now, we are awaiting approval from the authorities before making a formal announcement. The candidate has already been shortlisted and is a local figure from PAS.
“We will not be launching any new campaign machinery as preparations have already been made earlier. So far, voter response has been positive,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
The by-election for the Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak will be held on April 26. Nomination day has been set for April 12, with early voting scheduled for April 22.
The by-election is being held following the death of Umno assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin on Feb 22.
BN initially decided to name its candidate for the by-election on April 5, but later postponed it to April 7.
Perak BN chairman Saarani Mohamad said this was because the original date clashed with the national-level Aidilfitri celebration that will be taking place in Melaka.
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is also expected to contest the Ayer Kuning by-election, backed by youth-based party Muda.
PSM deputy chairman S Arutchelvan said his party would announce its candidate and launch its main operations room on Tuesday in Pekan Air Kuning. - FMT
