PETALING JAYA
A temporary Hindu temple structure was built on Jalan Rahmat off Jalan Ipoh in the city centre without Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) permission, says the local government.

While the land was privately owned, City Hall said several enforcement notices were issued over the construction of the structure, including a stop work order.

It said checks found that construction of the structure had been halted.

“Following discussions with the landowner on April 7, we were informed that the structure will only be there temporarily, with the land to be redeveloped into a commercial complex.

“And this temporary structure is only for the personal use of the landowner, and is not for public use,” DBKL said in a statement.

This follows a protest earlier today involving more than 30 people outside the temple, led by Muslim preachers Firdaus Wong and Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, among others.

They were protesting the building of the temple in front of the surau at the Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia’s (Perkim) headquarters.

Jais, Sepang council to evict temple built on mosque grounds

The Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais) said it will work with the Sepang municipal council to evict a Hindu temple illegally built on the grounds of a mosque in Dengkil.

Jais director Shahzihan Ahmad said the 4ha site had been gazetted in 2011 as reserve land for the construction of a mosque.

With the mosque’s construction only set to commence in 2026, the land remained vacant until 2024, when Jais noticed that a building was being constructed on the site.

“Jais issued a letter to the Sepang council on Sept 10, 2024, urging for action to be taken. However, no follow-up action was taken by the council.

“Jais will nevertheless work with the Sepang council to ensure that eviction will be done within the next one month,” he said in a statement.

Shahzihan said Jais will be checking on its reserve lands over the next one month to ensure no encroachment has occurred. - FMT
