PETALING JAYA:
Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah fought back from a game down to beat Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and book their spot in the Indonesia Open quarter-finals.

The world No 4 Malaysians were pushed to three games by the unseeded home duo but prevailed 18-21, 21-16, 21-17 in a 58-minute battle, despite strong support for the Indonesians from the home crowd.

This marks Pearly-Thinaah’s second win over the world No 20 Indonesians in three meetings.

In the quarter-finals, Pearly-Thinaah will meet the winners of the match between Malaysia’s Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting and Japan’s Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi.

Pearly-Thinaah, who have only made it to one final at the Thailand Open this year, are looking to bag their first World Tour Super 1000 series title in Jakarta.

In the all-Malaysian men’s doubles second-round match, world No 7 pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun came from behind to defeat Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King in three games.

After losing the first game tamely, Malaysia Masters champions Wei Chong-Kai Wun picked themselves up to win the match 14-21, 21-11, 21-15 in 48 minutes against the world No 23 pair.

A tough quarter-final awaits them tomorrow where they will face India’s Chiraq Shetty- Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who defeated Danish pair Rasmussen Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard 16-21, 21-18, 22-20. - FMT
