Ex-CJ zips lips on alleged JAC leak, cites ongoing probe

Former chief justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat has declined to comment on the purportedly leaked minutes of a Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting.

This is because the matter is being investigated by the authorities, she said.

“No, no. I believe the police are investigating the case. So, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to comment on it,” Tengku Maimun (above) said when asked to confirm the contents of the document, including allegations of judicial interference by a senior judge.

She was speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony for the president of the Court of Appeal, chief judges of Sabah and Sarawak, Court of Appeal judges, and High Court judges in Putrajaya today.

The document was circulated on social media on July 12 and was said to be the minutes of a JAC meeting in May.

The minutes are classified, and their contents reportedly mirror allegations contained in a leaked police report lodged by a senior judge in June.

The police report was filed after Malaysiakini contacted the judge on June 12 for comment regarding the alleged discussions about judicial interference at the JAC meeting.

Police have since confirmed receiving the report and said investigations are ongoing under several legal provisions, including the Official Secrets Act. - FMT
