MELAKA: Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, has confirmed that he received the resignation letter from Chief of Umno Youth, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, stepping down as a member of the State Executive Council (exco) on Tuesday.
"Yes, I have received the letter from Akmal. We are waiting for Tun (Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam) to discuss it," he said when contacted via WhatsApp this afternoon.
It is understood that the letter was submitted by the Umno Youth chief immediately after the weekly exco meeting in Port Dickson on Tuesday night.
The meeting was held as part of a two-day retreat for the Melaka State Assembly members starting last Monday.
Last week, Akmal, who is also Umno Jasin Division chief, announced his resignation as Melaka exco for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security, which will take effect this week.
Mohd Ali is currently on leave and is expected to resume his duties next week.
Meanwhile, Akmal confirmed he had submitted the resignation letter.
"Done. The letter has been submitted. Now we are just waiting for Tun's decision," he said. - NST
