Anwar Ibrahim says the tendency by certain parties to shield high-profile people or groups hampered the force’s ability to enforce the law effectively.

In the past, he said, certain parties’ tendency to shield high-profile people or groups hampered the police force’s ability to enforce the law effectively, Bernama reported.
“Do not interfere with actions taken by the police and enforcement agencies. At times, those providing protection are influential figures, and this complicates police work.
“I have issued a clear directive that if we are serious about taking action, we must also ensure that no one obstructs it in any way,” he said at the 219th Police Day celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre today.
Present were deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, deputy home minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, and communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail, and his deputy, Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, were also present.
Anwar expressed appreciation for the police force, noting its growing resolve in tackling illegal syndicates and corrupt individuals once seen as untouchable.
“I am encouraged to see firmness and courage in their actions, not only against petty offenders but also major corrupt figures who have long operated with impunity and were never previously challenged.
“These large illegal syndicates have been deeply entrenched in our system, and I commend the police for dismantling them with professionalism, determination and courage,” he said.
He said that under the Madani framework, the government was committed to ensuring that laws were no longer shaped or enforced to favour select groups with power and wealth.
Anwar said the public was increasingly recognising the sacrifices and contributions of the police in maintaining Malaysia’s standing as one of the world’s most peaceful nations, despite various domestic and global security challenges.
He also urged police personnel to further strengthen professionalism and integrity as key pillars of national transformation. - FMT
