Govt to take early intervention steps as West Asia conflict escalates

PETALING JAYA:

 The government will immediately implement a series of proactive and comprehensive early intervention measures to safeguard the country’s economic resilience amid the conflict in West Asia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Anwar said this was among the decisions made at the National Economic Action Council meeting he chaired, which examined the latest geopolitical developments, global economic pressures, and security implications arising from the conflict.

He said the government was mobilising efforts to ensure energy security, including diversifying supply sources and exploring alternative routes to reduce dependence on high-risk passages such as the Strait of Hormuz.

“Although we are still in the festive Aidilfitri period, the people’s wellbeing, particularly the cost of living, remains the Madani government’s priority,” Bernama reported him as saying in a Facebook post.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the government would continue to monitor developments in West Asia.

In addressing these challenges, he said, calmness, discipline, and a spirit of togetherness are crucial to ensuring the country remains stable and resilient. - FMT
