He remains DAP secretary-general, with the unanimous backing of the party's central executive committee.
However, the DAP central executive committee unanimously backed Loke to continue leading the party as secretary-general.
Loke said he was resigning as Negeri Sembilan DAP chief to take responsibility for the party losing two seats in the state polls, including Chennah, which the DAP supremo had represented for three terms.
He said he was proud to have led Negeri Sembilan DAP since 2002, increasing its representation from two state seats in 2004 to 11 in the 2023 state election.
“It is time to pass the baton,” he told a press conference at the party’s headquarters following a CEC meeting tonight.
Loke said there was no pressure from anyone for him to step down as Negeri Sembilan DAP chief, insisting that this was his own decision.
He said the Negeri Sembilan DAP leadership would meet this week to appoint a new chairman.
Loke previously said he would consider stepping down as Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman after losing his state seat on Saturday.
The transport minister lost Chennah to MCA’s Siow Kong Choon by 688 votes on Saturday, preventing him from securing a fourth consecutive term as its assemblyman.
Loke previously served as Lobak assemblyman from 2004 to 2013 before representing Chennah from 2013. He remains a three-term Seremban MP. - FMT
