Woman remanded over alleged RM30,000 bribe involving arms firms

PETALING JAYA:

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has remanded the owner of a company for allegedly taking bribes in exchange for securing grants and loans under a financing scheme for Bumiputera entrepreneurs for two firms involved in the arms and defence industry.

A source from the MACC said the suspect, who owns a consultancy, management and business services firm and is in her 60s, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur at about 6.45pm on Thursday.

“A seven-day remand order, from Sept 4 to Sept 10, was issued by magistrate Aliaa Anwar after MACC made the application at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court yesterday morning,” the source said.

The source also said preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly committed the offence in March 2025 and is believed to have solicited and accepted about RM30,000 in bribes from the owner of a company involved in arms and defence.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director Zakkuan Talib, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for the solicitation or acceptance of gratification by any person as an inducement or reward. - FMT
