Faekah denies 'support letter' issued to kin's firm

Selangor menteri besar's political secretary Faekah Husin has denied that her letter to a government-linked company (GLC) for it to consider appointing her niece's law firm to its legal panel is a support letter.

"The letter written by me is not a support letter and I'm prepared to be investigated. So far the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not called me for any verification," Faekah is quoted as saying in a Sinar Harian report today.

NONEShe also told the Malay daily that she is not a board member of the state-owned Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd, and has no authority to make any decision for the GLC.

Faekah said she would not hesitate in taking legal action against a blogger who allegedly defamed her on this issue.

Last week Faekahadmitted that she had sent a few letters from various law firms seeking appointment as legal firms to act for Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd, including one law firm run by her niece.

The letter written on the Selangor MB's Office letterhead reads, "The administration is of the view that (the law firm) should be given a chance as long as it does not contravene any company regulations."

Earlier, MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri Abdull said the commission was studying the letter and the role played by Faekah, but an official investigation was yet to be initiated.

Before that, Selangor PKR information chief and Sri Muda assemblyperson Suhaimi Shafiei called on MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to suspend Faekah pending an investigation.

However, Khalid defended Faekah, saying the letter was a normal matter and not against ethics.
