Health minister defends bid for WWW15 number-plate
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai has defended his RM24,200 bid for the 'WWW15' vehicle number-plate, arguing that it is for his new official car since the old one is past its shelf life.
According to reports in the Chinese media today, Liow explained that the bidding was handled by his officers.
He said the ministry needs to replace the current official car, hence the need to bid for the particular number-plate.
However, he skirted the question of who paid the RM24,200 bill.
“This is official car... is official” was all he could say, according to a report.
Liow said every minister is given an official car, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
According to a ministry officer, every minister is entitled to choose his or her favourite number-plate and the rest will be handled by an officer.
This includes Lim, whose official car carries the 'PG1' number-plate.
