Beware, Aedes eggs can stay dormant for 6 months

Health minister warns that Aedes mosquito eggs can remain dormant during this dry season but need only a little water to hatch later.
S Subramaniam
PUTRAJAYA: Aedes mosquito eggs can remain dormant when there is a lack of water and can survive for six months before hatching.
This warning came from Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam who warned the public against taking for granted the decrease in the number of dengue cases during the current dry season.
Speaking at a press conference today, he said the number of dengue cases had been very slowly decreasing but added, “We believe that this is only because of the dry weather.
“The public needs to remember that these dormant eggs only need a little bit of water to hatch.”
He said there was still a need for the public to become actively involved in combating the Aedes mosquitoes by ensuring that the environment was always kept clean.
“People have been quite complacent in taking part in the fight against the Aedes mosquito.
“This is even though we have continuously called on everyone to ensure they help maintain the cleanliness of their own environment at home or the office.”

  1. Is this information related to those GM mosquito that was released in Bentong, Pahang?
The Aedes aegypti OX513A, to be exact?
Should be around 2010 or 2011, if I remember correctly!
