It clarifies the CEO was only questioned to obtain information on corruption cases involving millions of ringgit in bribes received from companies for approval of loans.
KOTA KINABALU: There has been no arrest of a chief executive officer (CEO) of a bank in Sabah by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over corruption, said Sabah MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap.
Shaharom, however, confirmed that the CEO of the bank was called to testify regarding corruption cases at the MACC office here.
“The CEO of the bank was not arrested and not remanded.
“On the contrary, the MACC has arrested three people, two bank officers and a middle man, suspected of being involved in the cases.
“MACC called the bank’s CEO to obtain information about the corruption cases,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He was commenting on claims that a CEO was among three people arrested by the MACC in connection with the cases.
It was reported yesterday that a 49-year-old bank employee was remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations by the MACC into corruption cases involving millions of ringgit.
Prior to that, a 31-year-old bank employee and a 41-year-old civilian were also remanded for seven days.
The three, who were arrested at the MACC office here, have been remanded to facilitate investigations into cases of bribes received from companies to approve their loan applications in 2013.
