Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was called in for questioning by police today for allegedly uploading onto social media an image portraying Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as a clown.
Her lawyer Michelle Yesudas said police were investigating the alleged offence under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act.
This is the same act artist Fahmi Reza is being probed under for first drawing the image.
Nurul Izzah is alleged to have uploaded the image onto her Instagram account but she declined to answer the police's questions today on whether she uploaded the photo or not herself
Speaking to the media after she was questioned at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, Nurul Izzah told the prime minister to instead focus on bigger issues rather than just harassing MPs.
"Doesn't he have better things to do? Doesn't he need to focus on governing the country considering we have been lambasted worldwide thanks to his scandals and pet baby 1MDB?" she pointed out.
Yesudas added that probing the alleged offence over the image was a waste of police resources.
"The police's job is to maintain the security and safety of the people. If the resources are taken, how can they work?
"We urge them (the police) to work together for a progressive society and not act against the opposition. We hope this will be the last of it," she said.
Nurul Izzah is the second person to be questioned over the Najib clown image, which bear the words Kita Semua Penghasut (We are all instigators) above it.
Fahmi was questioned last week at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over the image.
Meanwhile Petaling Jaya district police chief Zani Che Din told the media that the case is being handled by Bukit Aman. -Mkini
