DAP leaders pelted with eggs over seat dispute

Pahang DAP chairperson Leong Ngah Ngah today said that unhappiness over a seat the party conceded to PKR had led to an incident where several members threw eggs at him while he was attending a function with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
Leong told Malaysiakini that the DAP had given up the Damak state seat in Pahang to PKR during the 12th general election in 2008.
"The DAP contested in Damak in 2004. In 2008, we did not have a candidate so PKR contested the seat.
"Now to take back the seat is very difficult," said the Tanah Rata assemblyman, adding that some grassroots members were unhappy as they wanted their favoured candidate to contest the seat.
Leong said the DAP had not held any activities in the area for some time and it was only yesterday that several individuals crashed their coffeeshop talk session in Jerantut and threw eggs at him and Lim.
"I recognised one of them is a DAP member. There was nothing we could do.
"They threw the eggs, but our ceramah still went on after that.
"I think the big problem is only these few people. They expected that their (favoured) candidate to contest in the election," he said, adding that the group proceeded to take down a DAP banner in the area.
The Star Online had earlier reported that the grassroots members' wanted the party to field Koh Boon Heng as its candidate for Damak in the 2013 polls.
Koh went on to contest as an independent candidate in a four-way battle against incumbent Datuk Lau Lee from BN, PKR's Jamaluddin Abd Rahim and another independent candidate Mohd Nor Jaafar.
Koh reportedly lost by a narrow margin of 64 votes against Lau, who successfully defended his seat with 7,905 votes. -Mkini
