IGP: No apology or resignation over Aminulrasyid's death

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has refused to apologise or resign after the Shah Alam High Court found him guilty of public misfeasance in the death of 14-year-old shooting victim Aminulrasyid Amzah.
"Why would I want to apologise? I will not apologise," he said curtly when asked if he would apologise to Aminulrasyid's family.
When asked to comment on Lawyers for Liberty’s Eric Paulsen's call for him to resign, the top cop replied: "He's not my tauke."
Yesterday, the Shah Alam High Court had found Khalid, who was then the Selangor CPO, guilty of public misfeasance and awarded RM100,000 against him.
This was for stating in a press conference a day after Aminulrasyid was shot dead in a car chase with the police that they found a parang in the car driven by the teenager and that he had tried to ram into the police patrol cars.
The judge had said there was no evidence of either of those things.
In total, the High Court awarded Aminulrasyid’s family RM414,800 in damages.
Khalid declined to comment on whether or not he will appeal, but said that decision would be made by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
The civil suit was filed to claim damages for Aminulrasyid’s death, allegedly due to gunshot wounds to the head caused by police negligence.
Besides Khalid, the other defendants named are Corporal Jenain Subi, the Shah Alam district police chief and the Malaysian government.
In November 2013, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge Jenain of a charge of causing Aminulrasyid’s death when he pursued the latter in a car chase in Jalan Tarian 11/2, Section 11, Shah Alam, between 1.10am and 2am on April 26, 2010. -Mkini
