INTERVIEW DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has dismissed critics who have called him a hypocrite for working with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the Save Malaysia movement.
Lim also rejected any notion that he has sold out his principles.
"Hypocrites? There are people who accuse me of having no principles, that I'm opportunistic.
"For 50 years, money, position, resources - nothing has enticed me. I'm 75 now, not many active years let, so there's no reason why I should be tempted and enticed," he told Malaysiakini in an interview on Tuesday.
Lim said his teaming up with Mahathir to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is what's best for the country.
"Bringing about a more united nation, a more just and prosperous society; these are principles that have guided my whole life," he added.
He also stressed that working with Mahathir does not mean he has forgotten about the former premier's past actions.
The Gelang Patah MP said it was important not to be held back by the past in order to save the country.
"There are wrongs in the past, but you have to decide what is more immediate - the now and the future - or focus on the past," he said.
Lim and Mahathir have been bitter enemies for decades.
Their appearance together at the Save Malaysia movement launch last Friday surprised many, earning both veteran accusations of selling out. -Mkini
