Muhyiddin's claim shows 'horse-trading' deeply rooted in Umno

Suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin's claim that he was offered plum positions such as the governor of Penang showed that political horse-trading is deeply rooted in the ruling party.
DAP Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching and PKR Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin believed the offer was made to shut the mouth of critics.
Teo added that the move was to appease the dissidents.
“Is it good? Of course not, they use taxpayers’ money to appease.
“In other words, we did not see how can the person contribute to the position but just make sure get him under control,” the DAP national assistant publicity secretary told Malaysiakini.
Agreeing with Teo, Sim said Muhyiddin's revelation confirmed that horse-trading is in Umno’s DNA.
“From this incident, political trading is very much (entangled) in Umno culture.
“(Such move is to appease) someone who criticize or stand up on the matter of transparency, 1MDB and RM2.6 billion.
“I am quite sad that they used to offer Penang governorship to retiring politicians,” he added.
'Najib can take governor post'
On a lighter note, Sim hoped Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak can take over the Penang governor's post and resign as soon as possible.
“I don’t have problem bowing down to him,” he quipped.
Muhyiddin also revealed that he was offered the post of chairperson of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).
“I had even imagined (Penang Chief Minister Lim) Guan Eng in front of me, kneeling and sembah (prostrating) to me.
“Sometimes I feel quite stupid – why didn’t I take the offer? Some ask me why I didn't accept the posts, and then take RM1 billion, that would be enough," he told a forum in Kota Tinggi two days ago.
However, Muhyiddin rejected the offer for the sake of his dignity. -Mkini
