Pua: Azalina jumped the gun when clearing Najib of corruption

A DAP lawmaker claimed that Umno minister Azalina Othman Said had jumped the gun when she cleared Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of corruption when the investigation was still incomplete.
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua was referring to the RM27 million that reportedly went into Najib's account from SRC International Sdn Bhd, and is being probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Last week, in a parliamentary written reply, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the MACC did not find any element of corruption in its probe on Najib.
Pua claimed Azalina's reply contradicted with the Feb 24 statement made by MACC's oversight panel that the probe has yet to be completed.
In the statement, MACC panel said it agreed that the MACC resubmit its investigation papers to the attorney-general.
"The statement could only mean that the investigation is still 'incomplete' and MACC was seeking the assistance of the attorney-general to obtain overseas Mutual Legal Assistance (MLC) to access additional evidence," he said.
Thus, he opined that Azalina's response was shocking as there were discrepancies in the details.
"She must clarify why her statement contradicted with that of MACC.
"Has she misled the Parliament in her reply in order to exonerate her direct superior, Najib?" asked Pua at a press conference held at the Parliament lobby.
"If she fails to provide clarification and evidence that MACC had indeed 'cleared' the prime minister, we will consider referring her to the House Committee of Rights and Privileges for intentionally misleading the Parliament," he added.
Azalina said she did not understand what Pua is accusing her off.
"I don't understand what Pua meant by stating that I may be confusing the Dewan Rakyat through my written reply to him," she said in a statement.
She explained that her reply was based on AG Mohamed Apandi Ali's remarks on Jan 26, that there was insufficient evidence that Najib had committed a crime.
She added that under Article 145(3) the AG's decision can't be challenged.
Apandi had on that day cleared Najib of any wrongdoing on the RM42 million SRC International and RM2.6 billion donation scandals.
Najib has denied misusing public for personal gain, and dismissed such allegations as a plot to topple him. -Mkini
