KUALA LUMPUR: Rayani Air is ready to meet higher authorities in the aviation sector to discuss and rectify its technical problems, especially flight delays and cancellations.
Its Public Relations General Manager Anisah Azharuddin said the airline was dealing with the matter positively and was eager to improve operations and services.
Touching on the warning by Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai for the airline to buck up, she said: “We have just received the letter from the Transport Ministry to discuss the issues.
“We are very committed and eager to better our operations and services,” she said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Liow said yesterday the airline was likely to face suspension of operations if it failed to comply with regulations.
He issued the warning in response to complaints from Rayani Air passengers on flight cancellations and delays that went viral on social media recently.
Referring to the issuing of handwritten boarding passes, Anisah said she was waiting for a report from the operations side but added that the incident happened because the system was not able to print the boarding passes electronically due to a technicality.
She said the flight was scheduled for March 17 but was delayed to early March 18.
“There were passengers who checked in after midnight (of March 17) and the system was unable to print the boarding passes because in the system the flight was scheduled for March 17. That’s why we had to issue the boarding passes manually,” she said.
Anisah said the handwritten boarding passes were issued on Rayani Air’s official blank boarding passes and this had been verified by aviation authorities at the airport.
“We accept every comment positively to improve our operations and procedures, not just in terms of syariah compliance but also in other aspects of our operations, including technical and services.
“We appreciate all the comments and take it positively.”
Rayani Air was launched on Dec 20 last year and has positioned itself as Malaysia’s first syariah-compliant airline.
