School police prefects in Labuan

New intelligence-led policing approach is part of the community policing programme to foster greater rapport between police and students.
School-PrefectLABUAN: All schools here will have “school police prefects” authorised to enforce discipline to help address social ills and crime among students.
Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman said the new intelligence-led policing approach is part of the community policing programmes aimed at fostering greater rapport between police and students.
“We will do our level best to zero in on the involvement of school children in crime. We will enhance ties with the school authorities and engage students in more programmes,” he told Bernama today.
At least 44 students with outstanding discipline track record at Sekolah Menengah St Anne received appointment letters as police prefects from deputy police chief DSP Ibrahim Mohd Ghani during Discipline Week on Monday.
Other schools are scheduled to join the programme.
Meanwhile, 24 first-responder police personnel underwent a Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop organised jointly with the Labuan Health Department.
“BLS is a level of medical care rendered to victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries prior to proper treatment.
“It can be provided by trained medical personnel, including emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and by qualified bystanders,” he said.
