Wan Azizah a no show at Citizens’ Declaration meeting

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lim Kit Siang, Sanusi Junid and Mukhriz Mahathir among those who attend first meeting to discuss how to oust PM Najib Razak.
wawiKUALA LUMPUR: Signatories to the Citizens’ Declaration had their first meeting last night and Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was again missing.
According to PKR Vice-President Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the closed-door meeting took place for two hours from 9pm yesterday at the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
Among the matters discussed were ways to ensure Prime Minister Najib Razak is ousted from the government, Shamsul told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby here today.
“We discussed several activities to promote the Citizens’ Declaration.
“We also discussed and mooted suggestions on who should be in the secretariat, which I believe will be announced soon.”
Further details will be announced by former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he added.
PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar said the meeting went well as it portrayed the signatories’ commitment to the declaration despite coming from different political backgrounds.
Among those who attended the meeting, he told reporters, were Dr Mahathir, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, former Umno minister Sanusi Junid and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
Wan Azizah, who was absent during the signing ceremony last Friday, was again a no show, said Mahfuz.
When asked if Pakatan Harapan’s agenda to have former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s release included in the reforms was discussed at the meeting, Mahfuz said the issue did not arise.
“For us, institutional reforms can’t happen until Najib is out. We all want to ensure this and put an end to his abuse of power.
“We have agreed from the beginning that our focus is to remove Najib. Everything else comes after that.”
