BAGAN DATOH: Teachers should not be burdened with administrative work, but should focus efforts on academic and spirituality, says Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He noted the move was crucial to empower teachers in producing students who were not only educated, but also had high moral values.
Ahmad Zahid said the matter should be prioritised to enable the country to achieve developed nation status: the UN educational agency Unesco required 70 per cent of the people of a country to have at least a diploma.
“I agree that teachers should not be burdened with administrative work and should focus on academic and personality aspects. This is because the performance of the education sector should also be measured by the emotional stability of the teachers,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said this when launching a football carnival and presenting excellence awards for schoolchildren who passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia examinations.
Ninety-five students from 11 schools in his constituency received cash incentives of RM500 each for achieving excellent results.
