STATE POLLS | Penang PAS Youth has claimed certain parties have fraudulent plans to win the state elections.
Citing "reliable sources", they claimed the purported scam involves ballots cast by phantom voters using identity cards (IC) "rented" from voters.
"The modus operandi involves getting as many as ICs as possible in a state constituency, especially those belonging to youths, in exchange for money.
"Then the ICs will be used by phantom voters to vote for a certain party, and returned to the rightful owner after the elections are over," the state PAS Youth said in a statement today.
According to them, there are also plans to swap ballot boxes with those brought from outside a voting area to give certain parties an electoral victory.
"An election is supposed to be a level playing field where all the competing parties can contest maturely, regardless of whether they are the ruling government, the opposition, or an independent.
"Cheating scandals like these will not help mature the country's democracy," said PAS Youth, urging voters to remain vigilant to any cheating attempts and report them to the authorities if they came across any.
"In the race's final leg, we expect more desperate cheating tactics to crop up. We have faith in the Election Commission, the police, and the voters to act against such attempts to manipulate the polling." - Mkini
