'Govt's biggest challenge is managing party differences'

Putrajaya’s biggest challenge is to manage the differences among the many parties that make up the federal government, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

In his New Year’s message, he said differences in opinion will surface from time to time, but this was normal and that no single party can dominate another in any decision.

“As the head of the DAP and a cabinet member, I recognise that the unity government’s biggest challenge is in managing the differences among the diverse parties and uniting towards a common goal.

“We must manage every situation with a cool head and always adhere to the spirit of consensus. The cabinet is the country’s top decision-making body.

“All governmental policies and key decisions can only be decided through discussion in the cabinet meetings and consensus achieved by all the parties that form the government of the day,” said the Seremban MP.

He said DAP was committed to ensuring political stability, fostering racial harmony, and advancing the people’s well-being.

“In line with the prime minister’s focus, 2024 will be all about the economy, the economy, and the economy,” wrote Loke.

Reflecting on 2023, he said the country overcame various challenges and the political temperature was reduced.

“Many national policies and strategies such as the Madani Economy, New Industrial Master Plan, National Energy Transition Roadmap, and more, have been crafted and unveiled for execution.

“The investment climate has been reinvigorated and investors’ confidence in Malaysia’s economic future is increasing.

“Malaysia’s foreign policy and international role on the global stage have gained prominence and attention from major powers. Our bilateral ties with countries in Asean and East Asia have strengthened and facilitated stronger trade growth,” he added. - Mkini
