Kelantan ‘grateful’ to Putrajaya for RM178m ‘wang ihsan’

Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud said the state will hasten acquisition of land to expedite flood prevention measures under way in Rantau Panjang.

PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan government said it is grateful to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the payment of RM178 million in “wang ihsan” (goodwill payment) to the state recently.

Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud said the total “wang ihsan” payment for Kelantan for 2023 amounted to RM217.96 million.

In a statement released on Facebook, Nassuruddin said the state was grateful to Anwar for announcing an immediate sum of RM6 million to repair a 20m-stretch of bund along Sungai Golok that had been damaged badly during the flooding.

He said the state government will heed Anwar’s advice to hasten land acquisition for the Sungai Golok integrated river basin development project (PLSB) in Rantau Panjang.

He said the project, costing a total of RM911 million, would ease flooding in the area.

The second phase of the project is to start next year.

During his visit to see the flood situation in Kelantan on Thursday, Anwar announced a RM50 million allocation as initial assistance for flood victims in the state.

“With this allocation, each family will receive RM1,000 and additional aid will be given based on the extent of losses suffered,” he said. - FMT
