
The study, carried out by Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES), surveyed 6,400 people aged 15 to 30 years across the country.
IYRES’s study also found that 15% of youths worried about safety at home, while 14% said their living conditions were unsafe.
Social media is another problem, with 38% feeling that societal beauty standards lowered their self-confidence, and 40% feeling judged for their education level.
Money problems are also a major issue for the youths surveyed. Nearly 47% said finances were a big worry, with 23% having to deal with family debts.
Traffic congestion was blamed by 40% of the respondents as a factor affecting their mental health.
However, 95% of the youths expressed confidence that they would recover from the hardships.
IYRES said of the 6,400 youths surveyed, 49% were male and 66% resided in urban areas. - FMT
