The couple, who are the home’s owners and caretakers, was arrested at 3.20pm, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the husband, 66, and his wife, 68, were arrested after a report was lodged on April 1.
He said the report was made by an 18-year-old youth who said he had been scolded and slapped on his left cheek.
“The teenager claimed he had been scolded for not listening to the shelter’s owners and caretakers.
“Two other police reports were lodged by other witnesses over the couple’s behaviour as they had allegedly abused the children emotionally and mentally before this,” he said.
Naazron said the couple will be remanded tomorrow.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse, punishable by a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or up to 20 years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. - FMT
