Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had spent seven days providing his statement to MACC, with the last session held on March 24.

PETALING JAYA
Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to resume giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by the end of this month, says chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Azam said the upcoming session would mark the second phase of the investigation, which would focus on the issue of asset declaration.

He said the first round of questioning, which centred on the discovery of RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars in several “safe houses” had been completed.

“In the next two weeks, we will follow up with further questions,” he said in an interview with TV3’s Buletin Utama at his office today.

“If the required documents cannot be provided, we will call him back to clarify why these documents are unavailable and to determine which witnesses he can present to support his asset declaration.”

Ismail had previously spent seven days providing his statement to MACC after being named a suspect in an ongoing investigation involving four of his former senior officers.

The most recent session, held on March 24, lasted five hours, bringing the total time spent on his testimony to over 30 hours.

A money changer had also been arrested as part of the probe into Ismail. - FMT
