In a statement, Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the officer was found with an injury to the head inside the guard room at around 6.12pm.
“Investigations at the scene revealed that a single shot was fired from the weapon used by the officer.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960,” he said, adding that police are pursuing the matter from multiple angles.
Hamzah said the officer is still receiving emergency treatment at Penang Hospital’s emergency and trauma department.
“The public is advised not to speculate on this incident as it may disrupt the ongoing investigation,” he said. - FMT
