'Party neglecting Indians' - MIC leader denies being PKR member

Selayang MIC division chief N Sivanyanam has refuted claims of being a member of PKR, criticising the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim-led party for its failure to address the concerns of the Indian community.

In a four-paragraph statement to Malaysiakini, he called on Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat to retract the allegation.

“I deny being a member of PKR,” said Sivanyanam, who has lodged a counter-police report on the matter.

“I am the chairperson of the Selayang MIC division, so there is no need for me to join any other political party. Furthermore, PKR is not a party which helps the Indian community,” he added.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that Chua, who is contesting for the Selayang PKR division chief post, had lodged a police report on Sivanyanam’s alleged membership.

Chua said the MIC leader had registered as a member in October 2024.

He said it is unknown how many active MIC members have joined PKR over the years, calling it a "coordinated attempt to infiltrate" his party.

Baseless

In the police report sighted by Malaysiakini, Sivanyanam said he found out about the issue through a Facebook account, and copies of Chua’s police report were circulated on WhatsApp.

He rejected the claims in Chua’s report as being a political allegation without basis.

“I believe that the police report was made with malicious intent and to persecute me either personally or politically,” he said.

The allegations also interfere with his rights as a Malaysian citizen, he said.

He added that any report containing his personal information is an offence under the Personal Data Protection Act.

He further said his report was made to initiate police investigations over the motive for Chua’s report. - Mkini
