KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to return to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) office in Putrajaya tomorrow to give his statement for the eighth time.

It is learnt that the Bera member of parliament was initially scheduled to provide his statement today, but it was postponed.

It is understood that the statement-taking process was still ongoing as there were several documents that needed to be verified with him.

"The investigating officer will record his statement tomorrow morning," a source said.

Previously, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the probe was still in its early stages, with only about 15 to 20 per cent of the investigation process completed so far.

The last time the veteran Umno leader was summoned to the MACC office was on April 24.

It was reported earlier that he was being investigated for corruption and money laundering involving the expenditure and procurement of funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his prime minister term from Aug 2021 to Nov 2022.

On March 3, investigations into Ismail Sabri reportedly began after the arrest of his former aides and discovery of approximately RM170 million in various currencies, as well as 16 kilogrammes of gold bars in a safe house during an MACC raid.

The MACC also reportedly froze 13 bank accounts to assist in the investigation. - NST
