The Malaysian Bar’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled for this morning was called off after failing to meet the required quorum.
The meeting in Kuala Lumpur was supposed to start at 9am, but only 304 members were present, far short of the 500 needed for proceedings to commence.
Malaysian Bar president Ezri Abdul Wahab announced the cancellation at about 11.15am, expressing disappointment over the low turnout.
“I’m disappointed (that the EGM could not be held),” he told reporters.
The EGM was expected to debate two key motions concerning judicial matters, particularly on the independence of the judiciary and waning public confidence in the institution.

Another motion, on implementing a fair minimum wage for chambering pupils, was also slated to be tabled.
The council had issued the notice for the EGM on July 1. - Mkini
