AADK staff to face disciplinary action following client's death

The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken against officers and staff of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) following the death of a client.

The fatality occurred at Batu Kurau Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen), Perak, on March 14.

In a statement today, the EAIC informed that the action taken by the AADK Integrity Unit was in line with the agency’s internal procedures and that the investigation into the complaint was carried out in accordance with subsection 27(4) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009.

In this regard, the EAIC has referred to the head of the AADK Department with suggestions for improvements by proposing improvements to the Standing Order of the AADK director-general covering Chapter D01 on the client admission process and Chapter D10 on the management of treatment, medical, and clinical rooms.

“These improvements are aimed at strengthening the management and monitoring of client health, including aspects of handling and administering medication to clients admitted to the rehabilitation centre,” according to the statement.

The commission also recommended the implementation of comprehensive inspections at all Puspens to monitor the implementation of tasks, identify operational issues, and ensure continued compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

In addition, EAIC outlined the need to enhance training involving SOPs, guidelines, policies, standing orders and service, enforcement and operational procedures through the implementation of courses and refresher courses periodically to all Puspen staff.
