“2026’s most precious Christmas present for me: “Bossku remains behind bars in Kajang Prison”

Letter to editor

I’M not a Christian but this Christmas, I have something wonderful to rejoice in – the thought that disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be in Kajang Prison instead of lazing comfortably at home.

I don’t agree with what his UMNO comrades and Bossku supporters say – that we should instead be showing empathy for Najib because his application for house arrest was denied by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Why should we show empathy for a big-time crook? A kleptocrat who has landed us with a gargantuan 1MDB debt to pay for many years to come?

Why don’t his comrades and supporters think about that?

I don’t agree either with – in fact, I’m dead against – suggestion from some quarters that there be amnesty given to all political leaders currently facing charges so that we can pull off a political reset.

I have never heard such absurdity in my life! That is tantamount to pardoning people who are alleged to be crooks.

What example will that set for Malaysians? That political bigwigs need not face justice, that they can do the crime and be forgiven? Think of what this incentive will do to encourage other political leaders to commit crimes!

That is clearly an idea that came out of the proposers’ nether parts.

Christmas is a time for forgiveness – I know – and perhaps, I should not be talking this way. But there are some things, in my view, that cannot be forgiven.

On that note, I hope to be merry still on Boxing Day when the verdict on Najib’s 1MDB trial is delivered.

I have been telling people that I have faith in Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah’s judgement. I hope we will see justice done.

Meanwhile, let me wish all those who are celebrating the festive event a Merry Christmas.

Have a wonderful time revelling with your loved ones and rejoicing on this joyous occasion. The next day is another day!
